Gross Wellbeing Index

Ever heard of the Gross National Happiness Index?

It is an Index which shows not only economic data (the GDP and the National Income do so) but contains also some aspects of the people’s happiness - i.e. their feelings, enthusiasm aso. But this is always at least partly a subjective figure…

The idea is 35 years old and was originally developed by the King of Bhutan in 1972.

Now some guys from the Nobel laureate, headed by an Indian, developed the GWI, based on the Bhutanese GNHI idea. A lot of 3rd wolrd countries put a lot of hope in it… Let’s see if this is what the 1st world wants to hear - I’m very sceptical ;-) Though the Australians take it serious
